  Thallus thin, plane, continuous to rimose-areolate, yellowish white to whitish grey, epruinose, sometimes glossy. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible or whitish grey. Apothecia immersed in the thallus, 0.2–0.5 mm diam.; disc pale to dark red-brown, epruinose or slightly bluish-pruinose. Cortex absent. Amphithecium reduced to a thin layer, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH. Parathecium 15–20 µm thick, hyaline, inspersed with small crystals. Epihymenium reddish brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, K–, without crystals (glabrata-type). Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 8.5–14.5 × 4.5–5.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), zeorin (major), chloroatranorin (minor) and unidentified terpenes (trace).
     
  A saxicolous species on sandstone or quartzitic rocks in shaded habitats in rainforest, gallery forest and open woodland in northern Australia. Occurs in north-western W.A., northern N.T. and north-eastern Qld. A pantropical subspecies.
